First of all, I would like to apologize to you guys for my lack of posts lately. I’m completely blaming it on the weather lately. Although it’s been beautiful for the last couple of days, prior to that it was hot and humid as shit, which makes me want to avoid the kitchen at all costs. But with summer winding down (can you believe it’s almost Labor Day already?!), I’ll hopefully be tinkering away in the kitchen with a little more frequency now.
This past Saturday, I attended a bridal shower for my sister-in-law, Michele. She is marrying an awesome guy named Dominic in November, and I had so much fun celebrating their upcoming nuptials at her Australian-themed shower (they’re planning to visit Australia on their honeymoon).
Peter’s other sister, Margaret, had asked me to bring some appetizers for the shower, so in addition to a simple veggie tray, I knew I had to make this pizza dip. It’s one of my most favorite dips to bring to a party (assuming there’s an outlet available). I mean, who doesn’t love pizza?! Everybody loves pizza. It’s a fact. PLUS, it’s like the easiest appetizer to make, like ever. Just throw a few ingredients into a crockpot and you’re done.
Now, the pizza dip that I make is pretty simple, but depending on your tastes, you can definitely give it a little flair. Add some cut up pepperoni pieces, or crumbled cooked sausage, or black olives, or mushrooms, or peppers. Really, the sky’s the limit!
One thing you might notice in my pictures is the bag inside my crockpot. Have you crockpot-lovers discovered slow cooker liner bags yet? Because they’re basically the best invention since sliced bread, as far as I’m concerned. You can find them in the same aisle at the grocery store as the saran wrap and plastic baggies. In my humble opinion, food always tastes better when you don’t have to worry about cleaning up later, and these bags eliminate the need for scrubbing your crockpot once you’re done eating. Just gather up the bag and throw it away. Clean up complete!
Crockpot Pizza Dip
- 16 oz cream cheese
- 16 oz pizza sauce
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2/3 cup shredded parmesan cheese
- 1/2 tsp Italian blend seasoning
- 1 loaf French bread
- Cut cream cheese into chunks and place in crockpot. Add pizza sauce, mozzarella, parmesan, and Italian blend seasoning to crockpot. Cook on high for about 1 hour or until ingredients have fully melted, stirring occasionally. Turn crockpot to warming function (or just to low if your crockpot doesn’t have a warming function) to keep warm.
- Cut French bread into slices about 1/2 inch thick and serve alongside for dipping.
