Crockpot Cinnamon Applesauce | Rich and cinnamony applesauce that can be easily made in the slow cooker.
Are you guys getting sick of my apple recipes yet? I hope not because we still have a few more to go. I gotta get them out to you guys before apple season is over, after all!
I love my crockpot. I don’t use it nearly enough because there aren’t a lot of recipes that I use that can be left in there for an entire day while I’m at work. A lot of my recipes need to be in there for like 4-6 hours, which won’t really work when I’m out of the house for 9-10 on work days. And I don’t like the idea of the food just sitting in there on the warming setting for super long periods of time because my crockpot has a tendency to overcook things on the warming setting. My warming setting is apparently set too hot. I don’t know…
I like to bust out my crockpot on the weekends when I can put things in there during the mid-morning so that it will be ready in time for dinner. And I actually use it the most to prep large amounts of meat so that Peter and I can have lunches during the week that can be easily thrown together in the morning (I do this a lot with my chicken taco meat and my pork carnitas. Then all I need to do is make a big pan of my oven-baked brown rice or my cilantro lime rice and we eat burrito bowls with tortilla chips for lunches for a week straight).
Anyway, I made this fabulous crockpot applesauce a couple of weekends ago when I had my crazy day of nonstop cooking. In my ever-so-humble opinion, cinnamon applesauce is exponentially better than regular applesauce, because duh, so I tweaked my stovetop applesauce recipe a bit and tossed all the ingredients in the slow cooker for a few hours.
Look at how smooth and rich and delicious that looks! The great thing about making applesauce in the crockpot is that by cooking the apples low and slow, they break down really easily when it’s time to mash them. If you like chunkier applesauce, all you need is a wooden spoon or a potato masher! If you’re like me and you like super smooth applesauce, a few quick turns with an immersion blender or a food processor (or a regular blender) is all it takes.
Plus you’ll get to smell all that apple cinnamony goodness cooking away all afternoon. It was practically impossible for me not to devour it all. But I managed to restrain myself, and I put the majority of it in freezer bags to save for another time. So now it just taunts me from the freezer. As if I don’t have enough problems….
Crockpot Cinnamon Applesauce
Servings: About 3 cups
- 3 lbs apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup apple cider (or apple juice)
- 1 1/2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- Combine all ingredients in the slow cooker. Cook on high for 4 hours.
- Blend applesauce using an immersion blender, food processor, or regular blender (if using a food processor or regular blender, blend applesauce in batches). Alternatively, you can mash the apples using a wooden spoon or a potato masher if you like your applesauce on the chunkier side.
